Taguig City, Philippines — October 4, 2025. Members of Young Christian Workers
Philippines joyfully joined the closing program of the National Laity Week 2025
held at Ligaya ng Panginoon, Taguig City. The event gathered various members
and partner organizations of Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas under the theme “Empowered
Laity Journeying Together as Pilgrims of Hope.” It was a day filled with
faith, unity, and celebration of the different charisms of lay organizations in
the country.
Different groups set up colorful and creative
booths to share their unique missions and stories. YCW Philippines also took
part by setting up its own booth to present its commitment to young people and
workers. It became a space for conversation and sharing about the life and
struggles of the working youth, and how they can act together for change. The
event also featured inspiring speakers who shared meaningful reflections on
what it means to be an “Empowered Laity” — ordinary lay people who take part in
building the Church and society.
The afternoon came alive with songs, dances,
and fellowship activities that showcased the beautiful diversity of each
organization. In the “Pilgrims of Hope” segment, participants were moved by the
powerful testimony of the Bocobo family, who shared their journey of faith as
their son Sancho faces the challenges of Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Their story
reminded everyone of the strength that comes from faith, hope, and a supportive
community.
The event ended with a renewed sense of mission. As YCW members, we carry with us the spirit of journeying together with other lay people—different charisms, one faith, and one hope. We continue to stand with young workers and communities, empowering one another to live out our faith in action and build a more just and loving society.
