The
spirit of solidarity is alive and burning bright! On March 1, 2026 young
workers from JOC Japan and YCW Philippines gathered online with one shared
mission: to prepare for a powerful exchange of realities and actions set to
take place this May 2026 in Iloilo City.
More
than just a preparatory meeting, this gathering of national leaders was a
reaffirmation of what it means to be young, organized, and committed to
transforming society. Rooted in the YCW method of See–Judge–Act, both
movements came together not only to plan logistics, but to deepen their common
understanding of the struggles and hopes of young workers in Japan and the
Philippines.
JOC
Japan presented a comprehensive report from their recent National Youth
Meeting, highlighting the pressing issues faced by young people in Japan today
— precarious work, social isolation, and the challenges of organizing in
changing workplaces. They also expressed their strong expectations for the
upcoming exchange: to witness firsthand the realities of Filipino young workers
and to learn from grassroots actions that bring about concrete change.
In
response, YCW Philippines enthusiastically shared the objectives and dynamics
of the Iloilo exchange program. Grounded in immersion and direct engagement
with base groups, the program is designed to allow participants to see
the real conditions of young workers, judge these realities in light
of faith and social analysis, and act together in solidarity.
The
discussion was vibrant and full of energy. Both national movements emphasized
that this exchange is not a simple cultural visit — it is a militant act of
international solidarity. It is about understanding how globalization connects
our struggles and how young workers, though separated by geography, share common
aspirations for dignity, just wages, secure work, and meaningful participation
in society.
By
engaging directly with base group members in Iloilo, participants will
experience the strength of grassroots organizing. They will witness how young
workers confront daily challenges — contractualization, low wages, limited
opportunities — and how they respond with collective action, education, and
leadership development.
This
meeting marked a significant step forward in strengthening collaboration
between JOC Japan and YCW Philippines. It reflects the living tradition of
international solidarity that defines the Young Christian Workers movement
worldwide — a movement that believes young workers are not victims of society,
but protagonists of change.
As
preparations continue, excitement builds. The upcoming exchange program
promises not only shared learning but renewed courage and inspiration for
collective action. It is a powerful reminder that when young workers unite
across borders, they amplify their voices and strengthen their struggle for
justice.
Indeed,
young people are not just the future — they are the present force transforming
the world. And this May 2026 in Iloilo, that force will once again rise in
action.
