The immeasurable role of women in our contemporary society cannot be underestimated. Despite the threats, discrimination, and the perception that women are weak and should be confined to domestic responsibilities, their bravery and courage have left an indelible mark throughout history. Notable examples include Tandang Sora and the female revolutionaries of the past, as well as present-day women who continually demonstrate their skills and excellence in various fields. Inspiring examples of women with fighting spirits have never been lacking.
On this International Women's Day, the Young Christian Workers of the Philippines (YCW) proudly recognizes the greatness, excellence, and rights of women in diverse parts of the world. Alongside the YCW, we strive for a society characterized by equality, where justice, love, and abundance are attainable for all. The young workers firmly believe in the capabilities of women across various domains, including leadership. We rise and challenge our government to prioritize programs aimed at the welfare and well-being of women, rather than pursuing Charter Change (Chacha).
The continuous exploitation of our nation's natural resources by foreign capitalists does not benefit all Filipino citizens. The government's push for Charter Change blatantly disregards the genuine agenda of the people, including women. This assault undermines the sovereignty of our society, threatens ancestral lands inherited from our forebears, and jeopardizes the economic livelihood of small communities.
Hence, it is of utmost importance to consistently fortify the ranks and influence of workers and women in advancing their rights and opposing the Charter Change being promoted by our government.
Drawing from a century of struggle and experience within the YCW, we will persist in standing resolute and calling alongside workers and women! Jobs, not Chacha! Right to Unionization, not Chacha! Women's Agenda, not Chacha!
