“An injury to one is an injury to all.” This slogan echoed deeply once again as young workers, past leaders, and committed militants came together for a powerful online gathering hosted by the Australian Cardijn Institute (ACI) in collaboration with the Australian Young Christian Workers (AYCW).
The special
webinar, held in the spirit of international solidarity, featured three
dedicated YCW delegates — Achut, Thomas, and Joseva — who represented Australia
at the historic Centenary Celebration of the International YCW (IYCW) last May
2025 in Belgium. Their testimonies were more than stories — they were calls to
action.
With courage and
clarity, the delegates shared what’s happening in their local realities: the
precariousness of youth employment, the growing inequality, and the deep hunger
for hope and justice. They also reflected on their international experience — a
moment of awakening to the diversity and unity of young workers across the
globe, all struggling under systems that exploit and exclude. Yet despite these
challenges, the spirit of the YCW lives on — in every campaign, in every
conversation, in every act of collective resistance.
More than 60
participants — from former YCW leaders and long-time worker militants to new
and emerging members — joined this moment of encounter. Together, they
reaffirmed what the YCW has always stood for: that young worker, when organized
and conscious of their dignity and power, can transform their lives and the
structures that oppress them.
This webinar was
not just an event — it was a reminder. A reminder that our mission is far from
over. That we must continue to listen to the lives of young workers, analyze
the root causes of their suffering, and act together to reclaim their rights,
their voices, and their future.
Some national
movements of International YCW participated in the seminar, and it is a symbol
of walking the path of young workers together. As Cardijn once said, "Every
young worker is worth more than all the gold in the world." And
together, we will continue the mission — to build a world where that truth is
finally recognized.
