In a recent coordination meeting, the IYCW-Asia
Pacific (ASPAC) Team connected with former leaders of YCW Singapore, Hanz and
Brandan, to explore ways to revive the YCW movement in the country. The
gathering was filled with hope and determination to bring back the spirit of
young workers’ action and solidarity.
Celebrating the Past, Inspiring the Future
As they recalled the centenary celebration of
YCW, the group recognized the importance of remembering the past struggles and
victories of young workers. These stories continue to inspire today's
generation to take action in their realities. The former YCW leaders in
Singapore expressed their desire to support the efforts of young
people—especially in responding to the challenges young workers face today.
Strengthening the Movement Together
One key point in the meeting was the plan to
rebuild YCW in Singapore. The Former YCW (FYCW) is committed to helping reach
out to young workers and reconnect with the local Church. ASPAC, despite its
limited resources, expressed its support by offering to help in small but
meaningful ways, such as formation and training. This reflects the strong
spirit of solidarity in the region.
Looking Towards the 2026 International Council
The ASPAC team also emphasized the significance
of the upcoming International Council in 2026, which will be held in the
Philippines. They are working on gathering support to ensure that more young
workers can participate. The Council will be a key moment to renew our shared
mission and build stronger international connections among young workers.
Moving Forward with Hope
Everyone agreed to continue the conversation
next month to plan concrete steps for restarting the movement in Singapore and
even expanding to nearby countries. This meeting was more than just a
discussion—it was a hopeful first step toward reigniting the YCW spirit in the
region.
