Jakarta, May 1, 2026 — PPMP–YCW Indonesia participated in the commemoration of International Workers’ Day (May Day) held at the National Monument (Monas) area in Jakarta. The event was attended by approximately 400,000 workers from various labor unions across Indonesia.
This year’s May Day celebration was also attended by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, the Minister of Manpower, and several other cabinet ministers. In his speech, the President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of workers, farmers, fishermen, and those in the informal sector, including app-based motorcycle taxi drivers.

On this occasion, the government announced a number of strategic policies that have been and will be implemented. These include the enactment of Law No. 2 of 2026 on the Protection of Domestic Workers (PPRT), Presidential Regulation No. 27 of 2026 on the Protection of Online Transportation Workers, and Presidential Regulation No. 25 of 2026 on the ratification of ILO Convention No. 188 concerning the protection of fishing vessel crews.
In addition, the government issued Presidential Decree No. 10 of 2026 on the establishment of a task force for mitigating layoffs and enhancing workers’ welfare. Other key commitments include the designation of Marsinah as a National Hero, efforts to limit outsourcing practices, the provision of affordable housing for workers and fishermen, and a continued commitment to combating corruption.
The government also responded to workers’ demands related to family welfare, including the provision of educational and recreational facilities for workers’ children. Furthermore, it committed to reducing platform service fees for online transportation drivers from 20% to below 10%.
PPMP–YCW Indonesia welcomes these policies and commitments as positive steps forward. However, it emphasizes the importance of continuous monitoring and oversight to ensure effective implementation so that workers can genuinely benefit from these measures.
PPMP–YCW Indonesia remains committed to advocating for workers’ rights and promoting a more just, decent, and prosperous life for all workers in Indonesia.
